Most moves in Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) are character specific, however some are shared by all of them. The input for these moves is the same across the roster but there might be slight differences in their properties, including damage, range, frame data, etc... so be warned. Enhancing Moves

Introduction

Enhancing a Special Move or Enhanced Special Move is a technique that was introduced in Mortal Kombat X and is now also available in Mortal Kombat 1 (2023). So lets take a closer look at it in this guide.

What Is Enhanced Special Move?

Enhancing a special move will expand the attack with additional and/or more powerful hits almost always causing more damage to the opponent. In certain cases it might allow a combo to be started right after the attack by launching the opponent in to the air for a juggle kombo. The effect of the enhancement is move specific.

How To Enhance Special Moves

You can enhance almost every Special Move in the game. To do that you will have to wait until you have at least one filled bar in your super meter (lower left corner of the screen for player 1). Once you have it, perform the special attack as you usually do and press BL (block) together with the last button of the move.

Example: Let's take an example projectile move that is usually done bu pressing B, F, BP. The enhanced version of it will be B, F, BP + BL.

There are some special moves that require you to press BL at a later stage to enhance the attack and even some that have multiple enhancements with each costing you one super bar from your super meter.

Our character specific guides will list enhancements only if there is something out of the ordinary about them. Moves that cannot be enhanced will be marked with -E.

Conclusion

So, that's pretty much the basics you need to know. Now select a character specific guide from the menu above to learn the details.

Fatalities

Fatalities have existed since the original Mortal Kombat 1 game. They are the identity, the soul, the scandal, the excitement of Mortal Kombat and they are present in Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) as well. This guide will give you all the information you need to become an expert in performing Fatalities.

When Are Fatalities Performed?

Fatalities are performed at the end of the round after you have defeated your opponent and the announcer has screamed Finish Him/Her.

Who Can Perform Fatalities?

In Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) Fighters of both, the main and the kameo roster, can perform Fatalities and there are no exceptions.

What Are The Conditions For Performing Fatalities?

You of course need to defeat your opponent. Then you need to be at the right distance from your dizzy opponent and then press a unique key combination at an acceptable speed. Nowadays the speed is much more tolerable than back at the arcades and you do have a lot more time.

At What Distance are Fatalities Performed?

This always depends on the Fatality you are performing and if a distance applies, it will be put written right next to the key combination. These are the distances that we usually see in a Fatality:

  • Close: When you begin pressing the key combination, your fighter needs to be right next to the opponent.
  • Mid: This one is kind of tricky as it can mean from a few steps away to half a screen or all of that distance at the same time.
  • Far: Far means at least a Full screen away from the opponent before the camera would begin to zoom out.

Notes

How To Do Scorpion's Choke On It Brutality

Scorpion's Choke On It Brutality is probably the most difficult one to figure out initially. The trick in it is that the Brutality will not trigger unless the following two additional conditions are met:

  • Your opponent has so little health left, that they are killed by the throw's very initial contact with them, meaning the slow motion is triggered right at the beginning of the throw.
  • You tap F, D, B, Up right after you trigger the throw, meaning directly during the slow motion sequence.

Knowing this should allow you to execute this Brutality with ease.

How To Do Scorpion's Any Way You Slice It Brutality

Scorpion's Any Way You Slice It Brutality requires some attention to figure out initially. The trick in it is that the Brutality will not trigger unless the following two additional conditions are met:

  • Your opponent has so little health left, that they are killed by the first part of the move. This means that the slow motion is triggered upon Scorpion passing through the opponent.
  • You need to press D, D, D during the slow motion effect.

Knowing this should allow you to execute this Brutality with ease.

Notes

How To Do Reptile's Acid Reflux Fatality

Reptile's Acid Reflux Fatality isn't difficult to execute, but there might be a little bit of confusion. Why? Because the Fatality is listed to require Close distance. In all previous Mortal Kombat games Close distance would mean right next to your opponent. Actually this would still be valid for all other Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) Fatalities but this one. Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) is a bit more relaxed when it comes to the distance requirements of Finishing Moves so Close works from right next to the opponent to a couple of steps away from them. Reptile's Acid Reflux Fatality is the exception here as it does not work when Reptile is right next to the opponent. So take a few steps away and it will trigger successfully.

Notes

  • The From Another TIme Brutality requires you to press D, D, D immediately after you initiate the throw, otherwise it will fail.
  • The Time Will Tell Brutality requires you to use the move that will send your opponent flying from the corner to the central of the stage. So if you are using D, F, BP you will have to be with your back in the corner. Keep holding BK until the very end, otherwise the Brutality will not activate.
  • The Sand Of Time Brutality requires you to press F, F, F to trigger. However the F, F, F is for after Geras has turned around and started the throw and is actually facing in the opposite direction. So F, F, F is actually B, B, B when looking from the starting position of the combo.

Notes

  • The Inputs for Reiko's Brutalities are all messed up in the game.

How To Do Reiko's No Turning Back Brutality

Scorpion's Choke On It Brutality requires some special attention to trigger. You need to make sure that the first contact of the throw with the opponent defeats them, otherwise the Brutality will not trigger.

How To Do Reiko's Does It Sting Brutality

Reiko's Does It Sting Brutality is probably the most tricky one to get right. Why? Because it relies on your opponent hitting you with a High or Mid attack. The description in the game doesn't help much either. But at the end of the day here is how it should go.

  • Your opponent tries to hit you with High or Mid attack.
  • You parry it with Retaliation: D, B, FP. You keep holding FP to trigger the Brutality

Notes

How To Do Raiden's That's A Shocker Brutality

Raiden's That's A Shocker Brutality is probably the most difficult one to figure out initially. The trick in it is that the Brutality will not trigger unless the following two additional conditions are met:

  • Your opponent has so little health left, that they are killed by the throw's very initial contact with them, meaning the slow motion is triggered right at the beginning of the throw.
  • Hold Up right after you trigger the throw, meaning directly during the slow motion sequence.

Knowing this should allow you to execute this Brutality with ease.

Let's Go For A Ride: B, F, FK (Hold Up, Jump Distance Away, Move can be enhanced, Level 15)*

Notes

How To Do Liu Kang's Bleeding Heart Brutality

Liu Kang's Bleeding Heart Brutality requires a bit more attention and precision. The trick in it is that the Brutality will not trigger unless the following two additional conditions are met:

  • Your opponent has so little health left, that they are killed by the throw's very initial contact with them, meaning the slow motion is triggered right at the beginning of the throw.
  • You tap F, F, F right after you trigger the throw, meaning directly during the slow motion sequence.

Knowing this should allow you to execute this Brutality with ease.

How To Do Liu Kang's Dancing Around Brutality

Liu Kang's Dancing Around Brutality requires a bit more attention and precision. The trick in it is that the Brutality will not trigger unless the following two additional conditions are met:

  • Your opponent has so little health left, that they are killed by the move's very initial contact with them, meaning the slow motion is triggered right at the beginning of Dancing Dragon.
  • Press FK or BK 6 Times right after you trigger the move, meaning directly during the slow motion sequence.

Knowing this should allow you to execute this Brutality with ease.

How To Do Liu Kang's Just A Nibble and Let's Go For A Ride Brutalities

Liu Kang's Just A Nibble and Let's Go For A Ride can pose a challenge because of one common requirement. Both Brutalities actually involve just Liu Kang's fire dragon and not the follow up flying kick. This means that we need to add these two things to the Brutalities requirements:

  • Your opponent has so little health left, that they can be killed by the fire dragon alone.
  • You must be Holding Up or D depending on which Brutality you are executing while the fire dragon is connecting with your opponent.

Knowing this should allow you to execute this Brutality with ease.

How To Do Johnny Cage's Game Over Man Brutality

Johnny Cage's Game Over Man is probably the most tricky one to get right. Why? Because it relies on your opponent trying to throw you. The description in the game doesn't help much either. But at the end of the day here is how it should go.

  • Your opponent tries to grab and throw you.
  • You escape the throw (Use FP/FK for Back Throws or BP/BK for Front Throws)
  • You press either the throw button or FP + FK immediately afterwards.

Notes

The names for some of Kung Lao's Brutalities and the pictures in the game are wrong.

How To Do Kung Lao's Lao'd and Clear Fatality

Kung Lao's Lao'd and Clear Fatality is one of the Fatalities with a little bit of a special distance. The Fatality is listed as Mid and this is true. However Mid is a very genirous distance definition in Mortal Kombat 1 (2023). Here this Fatality makes an exception. So, if it helps you, consider the Fatality Mid - Far.

How To Do Kung Lao's Spin Cycle Brutality

Kung Lao's Spin Cycle Brutality is probably one of the more difficult to pull off. The trick in it is that the Brutality will not trigger unless the following two additional conditions are met:

  • Your opponent has so little health left, that they are killed by the throw's very initial contact with them or by the second hit so to say. This must happen before Kung Lao has positioned himself on the other side of the opponent.
  • You tap F, D, B, Up right after you trigger the throw. You don't need to tap very fast, try precision instead of speed.

Knowing this should allow you to execute this Brutality with ease.

How To Do Kung Lao's Hats Off Brutality

Kung Lao's Hats Off Brutality requires you to press any attack button rapidly. Try to do this fast and keep pressing until the move ends completely or you risk not triggering the Brutality.

How To Do Kung Lao's Not Holding Back Brutality

Kung Lao's Not Holding Back Brutality is not really hard. The move requires you to Hold F. And here you need to be aware of something. Start holding F after you have pressed the first buton of the combo. Otherwise you will do a different move and the Brutality will not trigger. So read it the following way if it helps you: BP, Start Holding F, FP, BP, FP.
